More specifically , Gypo to Pakwene to Maingan to Jackfish, and up to Crooked.
How was it ?
Much blowdown ?
Portages still visible ?

Thanks for any help

Magic Paddler and I were up there-abouts in August 2020. We did a day trip from Thursday Bay via the creek to Jackfish and then out via Wabosons back to Crooked. If that fits you definition of lately and more specifically. That route was generally pretty decent, no drama and relatively navigable. If you don't know Jackfish, it's maybe 15' at the deepest, mostly around 10' and aptly named for the abundance of said fish - though it could have easily been named Hammer Handle Lake. Hope that's helpful.

Thank you !
I'm sure the tough part will be getting through the small lakes East of Jackfish.

Planning to check that out this August. Is there a way out of Jackfish to the southwest or west? To Fourtown or noseum ?

Stumpy, I looked for the portages to the west of Jackfish and could find no sign of them. I came in from Wednesday Bay, through Wabosons ( Rabbit L. on the old maps). I also checked the other side. I portaged off the creek east of Niki to Gypo. That portage had seen a wee bit of traffic. I can't remember for sure if I carried the canoe in there. I don't think so, I think I just gazed up toward where the portage would exit to Pakwene. That terrain didn't look promising. Keep i mind this was probably at least 10 years ago. It would be a good bushwhack adventure for you. Let us no how it goes.

YW Stumpy.

And for those reading this thread that do not know, just a friendly reminder that there are NO designated campsites in a PMA - must be no impact camping and you have to get a USFS PMA permit to camp there but they are free. For those that know - nuthin' to see here folks, move on along! : )
