I recently purchased a Garmin Montana 700i and have begun playing around with it. It is a tank, but I decide the screen size was worth the bulk as I intend on attaching it to my thwart.

I have not owned a GPS unit before. This spring I downloaded my route on my phone using the Navionics boating app. It worked surprisingly well, but the battery life didn't last (old phone). Oddly, it is my understanding that Navionics (now owned by Garmin) is not compatible on a GPS unit?

I see that Birds Eye is now included, no monthly/annual subscription needed. Birds Eye seems like a pretty decent image, but I do prefer the satellite image on the site that remains unnamed here.

I am going to EP 47 at the end of the month. I planned my route on that other site, then downloaded the GPX file which I then tried to export to Basecamp on my computer. My computer did not know what to do with the file, but I was able to drag it over to Basecamp and open it. When open on basecamp, it is not a satellite image, but a very simple looking map (not even topo) that seems difficult to manipulate. I was assuming that this was the proper procedure in order to get it onto my GPS?

It seems that Basecamp does not want to talk to my Montana 700i? It recognizes that it's there, but says it's not compatible. In Basecamp, it is also asking me to order a Birds Eye subscription, but my unit already has it built in. I updated the Montana, no luck. Do newer units no longer use Basecamp? Did I miss a step?

I am probably the least computer savvy guy out there, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
