Anybody have experience with the GG Superior one going into a Northwind Solo?

Picking up my first solo canoe this weekend, I have plans to single-portage most of my trips and need to have a pack that fits in the canoe laying down to keep the center gravity down.

I currently own a 65L Seal Line Black Canyon, and a GG Superior one... Thinking I might be in a pickle with the Superior one being too large and the Black Canyon being too small to take all my gear for 4-5 days, since I'll have to bring dog food and a couple other pet items as well. The Superior one can cinch down smaller if needed but I probably wont know for sure until the canoe is here an I can test the space out. Worst case I get a new pack dedicated for this canoe

I took my first solo last year for 10 days. I took a superior one and a gg food pack. I paddled a wenonah prism, the superior one was snug but worked. For sure no single portages happened. Not sure if this helps at all but have a great trip.

I have a Level Six Algonquin pack. I had that sucker full!

It is only 96 liters compared to GG Superior One at 121 liters. I was able to fit the Level Six behind the seat.

Any noticeable stability issues? The Superior One I have noticed, if packed correctly, can stay pretty thin and hopefully I can keep it level with the GW or only slightly above.

That does help a lot actually, and confirms what Tyler up at Piragis told me yesterday. He solos with a Prism and a GG Superior one as well. So at one inch narrower at the GW than the NW Solo, sounds like I will be ok as long as I don't overpack it. Double-portaging isn't a deal breaker but I'd like the ability to at least. Easier that way with the doggo.

When traveling solo I use 2 - Duluth No.2 packs which makes it much easier to trim the canoe as needed. This set-up won’t allow for single portaging but I never did that anyway.

I sold the Superior One before getting the NW solo so no real experience with them together, but I would bet the farm that would be a fit. The NW is pretty spacious

Nope. That Northwind solo was a dream. I rented but definitely want to own.

I have a GG Quetico 5000 that fits well in my Northwind. I know the Quetico is smaller than the Superior, but I do have a tripod lashed to one side and my Marmot 2 person tent on the other side.
Here's a couple of shots of the setup. COG is still quite low.

Curious as to why you load the GG with the straps down. Doesn't it make loading and unloading more difficult?

Good catch, I typically load with straps up, but for whatever reason I didn't that time. Although, there are enough grab points accessible from the top, the pack lifts out easily that way too.

you don't have to fill it to the top.
