When I was younger, a spinner was always my go-to lure. Depending on how it was fished, it could catch just about anything. I always have spinners with me, even to this day, but use them less and less. Reason? Line twist. I use the best stainless ball bearing swivels and that helps, but I know that if I tie one on, I will have to troll an empty line to get the twist out. I prefer Mepps or Vibrax, but is there a spinner setup that won't twist your line?

You need to go with a braided line, then a swivel, then transition to fluorocarbon line to your spinner.

Can you explain some more? Why braid? I like the swivel, then leader, then swivel and bait strategy.

Found this on anther website. I have used the swivel method but you got me thinking as to how improve my line twist problem. I may try this with ONE spinner lure before bending any others.

"By bending the shaft of the spinner about 25 degrees it acts as a keel and keeps the shaft of the spinner from rotating, almost eliminating line twist."

I can cast big spinners all day long when fishing for big Pike and musky and don’t get twist in my line. If anything is going to twist your line it’s going to be a spinner with double #10 blades. Why braid? Because I’m after big fish. But even when I’m after bass I like to use braid. Zero stretch, positive deep hook sets, sensitive to tell between hitting an underwater branch or rock and a strike, if you do get hung up just wrap the line around the rod butt and pull it free most times. I find the knots so much easier to tie when using a swivel. Braid to swivel, then other end of swivel tie the fluorocarbon on, then the other end of the fluorocarbon tie a snap. I also think that braid is why more resistant to line twist because of the way it’s made. The braid I use is Power pro made up of many tiny strands of Spectra line. Kind of like a mini rope. Any way works for me.

Thank you for the replies, I definitely have some things to think about and try out if the lakes ever open up. Tight lines to all.

Good story on why you use braid. I wondered why you recommended braid as a solution to line twist. Maybe you didn't.

IMO , fresh line & spooling it up correctly- quality swivel- quality reel , a person should not have issues with line twist on mono fishing line.

I fish alot with inline spinners over the last 30+ years. Line twist seems inevitable to me.
