This may be a bit far from the BWCA, but if you are interested in solo canoes it may be worth the drive.

I attended last year for the first time and had a great time paddling a bunch of different canoes, meeting some great canoeists and munching on good food. Not only did several canoe makers bring demo boats, but many folks offered their own canoes to be tried. Privately owned canoes were also offered up for sale and many went home with new owners. Load up some canoes and go!

Can't go this year, but might be able to next year. Sounds like a good opportunity to try different boats.
