So unless many folks object strongly, with open water here, let's shelve NTL until ice-up.

I will put a reminder in my calendar to start it...but would like some suggestions on when we should ramp up again. November? December? After the first of the year?

I'd be grateful if we start it up again on Thanksgiving...

Why have an off season? If anyone needs a break, just take it and return at your own timing.

Here's my thought: pick a "quintessential" BWCA lake where ice-in and out is tracked yearly. Ice-in on that lake means NTL starts, ice-out means NTL ends.

I like the Ice-in to Ice-out timing. Moose seems like a good one since there are multiple cameras on it. Anyone know when to start watching? Mid-to-late October?

It remains one of the most popular threads week in and week out. Guess I don't get why you would put it away if people are still engaged. If participation trails off then it might go away by itself but I don't understand this obligation to shelf it during travel season. Whatever happens happens.

It's fine to make it more systematic. We've done it in the past by someone randomly starting it up in the fall and then we generally pack it up as we all get ready to head out onto open water. At least, that's the way it's rolled. Time to go canoeing :)

I'm happy to post another, pass the baton, or shelve it. Seems like it's usually shut down for the paddling season pretty much every year...however the only boat I want to rock is my kevlar one.

Not at all would be my suggestion

Why are you so opposed to it? I'm curious.

This game has kept my winter blues away this year. I'm out of lakes to post but I love to guess! Maybe give it a break though. People will be busy with summer activities. Give it some time to add more photos to our collection.

I vote keeping it for the hardwater season. It’s a great tradition to look forward to. Plus it allows people to stock up on lake photos.

I was thinking we'd get closer to the end of the year before starting...or at least into December.

Bring it on any time
Nobody is forced to click on it, and most of the time I don't.

Hi SNS,

However you decide, I'm fine. I was remembering it was your turn and this was the post that generated some support...noting that some suggest never and others say always!

Besides, Howard already posted a guess!

Most of the time you don't because you're just not familiar with any of the lakes. :)

Well Howie,
The ones out East I never get. And have not seen.

Though I have been to Dent Lake.

We've typically used Gunflint and Shagawa for ice out in the past. Just a thought.

I think that was when Jim Maki was still alive for the Ely side and I was living on gunflint lake. Neither situation exists anymore, sadly.
