I am selling my Mad River Monarch decked canoe in excellent original condition. Designed by Verlen Kruger for his 28,000 mile 3½ year canoe journey, this 17’2” solo Kevlar canoe is designed to handle all conditions. This Monarch is in Mad River’s “Indian Brown” (Dark Khaki) on both deck and hull giving a “stealth” look with even the decals in low impact colors. The rudder system is unmodified and works smoothly. This exceptional Kruger designed expedition canoe has just a few light scratches in the gel coat (which does show white up on a dark hull), not bad for a 38-year-old canoe. Other than those, it looks like it just came off the showroom floor.
I have had this canoe for almost a year and really enjoy paddling it, but I don't foresee getting this canoe in it's "big water, big trip" element in the near future. So I am letting it go and hoping it will soon be back in use in it's proper environment.
The canoe is in Spartanburg, SC. I will be going to the Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous the first weekend in June, so if you are in the north-east or mid-west it might save you some milage. PM me for more info or to set up a viewing.
PRICE: OOPS! I meant to put the price in the header: $2900
WEIGHT: I've never put this one on the scale, but specs say 49-50 lbs. I understand that it's an all Kevlar layup, just not as thick (or heavy) as the 11 layer layup on the Kruger SeaWind which weighs over 10 pounds more.
