Brought some wine back from Italy and want to take a bottle on our trip. I know that glass is not allowed. What would be the best way to take the wine in ? Use a Sigg bottle , bota wine skin ? open to suggestions … Thx

PlatyPreserve is a specific solution to your need.

I was going to say Platypus, but this looks like an even better solution. I would suggest to also put it in a silnylon dry bag just incase it springs a leak.

We have used these and never had an issue. I also like the " Black Box" wine you can buy and just pack the wine right in the box. The box is pretty tough and I've never had a leak. I'll save weight by leaving a few pairs of underwear at home to make sure the wine makes it in ;)

Ditch the box and just put the bag in a stuff bag for added puncture resistance.

I use a gator-aid bottle. A nice happy medium between a Nalgene and some of those bag style reservoirs.

If you are fussy or the wine is special I’d recommend a stainless bottle (like kleen canteen) - I’ve found Nalgenes and other plastics to impart off flavors into alcohol drinks.

For many years we have packed boxed wine minus the box. The bags are very durable and go into the food barrels w/o any added protection. Never had any problems. I have kept a few wine bags after they are emptied, rinsed them out and use them as ice bags. The ice lasts much longer than cubes and provides cold water for a refreshing drink. The spouts are sometimes a little tricky to pull out but can be removed and replaced w/o difficulty and have never leaked. I have used some of these bags multiple times.

I second the use of PlatyPreserve bags for wine you can’t find in a box.

This is exactly what I have done for years and have never had an issue, except for running out. The box can double as fire starter if everything is wet and the box is dry. Also, using one side as a base really helps keep the tinder from pulling moisture out of the ground before the twigs and sticks start to burn.

Go buy a wine in the box. After drinking the wine you open the box and remove the plastic liner. Remove the rubber tap off of the plastic bag. Wash the bag and dry. Fill with your new Italian wine and install the rubber tap to the bag and put back into the box. Done.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and endorse this solution! We have been using these for years and love them. We used to bring boxed wine but the beauty of the platypreserve is that we can bring more than one kind of wine along on the trip. They pack nicely and we've never had them leak.

Platy Preserve works great, plus you’re not limited in the type of wine you want to bring.
