I have been reading the posts on here about jello mold ovens, how to use them, looked at the pictures you all have posted. So I went out and found the jello mold, pie tin cover, Coleman one burner stove, and read some more. Finally got a chance to try this. I used a brownie mix from the box, followed the directions, sprayed the inside of the jello mold, and put it on the stove on the lowest heat setting. I would check it every 10 minutes and at the 30+ minute mark it was smoking pretty good. I took it off the heat and the picture shows my result...first timer! LOL...I knew this was going to happen!! So what can I do to make sure this doesn't happen? Trying to teach an old dog new tricks!!

I wish I could tell you but I've not had that happen. I can only guess to high of flame. I don't know the Coleman one burner.I use an MSR Dragonfly at very lowest. Does the pie pan or cake pan fit fairly "tight" on top of jello mold? A picture of them might help. Some people have used silicon to line inside area where it burned, but I've never had to.

Here is my set up with he Coleman one burner stove. I guess I am unsure of how "tight" the pie pan sat on top. I did see smoke come out of the junction of the two. I had the stove at the lowest setting. I saw a couple of people who had a diffuser. I wonder how that would work.

We have a metal diffuser that goes under the Jello Mold Oven to regulate the tempurature since one of our stoves doesn't have a lot of flame control and the one that does may still get too hot. We usually monitor it after about 15 minutes to gauge how fast it seems to be cooking and add the diffuser if it seems to be in danger of burning.
We found our newest diffuser at Ace Hardware in Ely.

The other problem could be the spread of the flame. Either a diffused heat or one that is mostly within the central hole on the JMO is less likely to cause burning.

I believe that you will have much better success with a diffuser under the pan. I drilled 4 holes in a stove burner drip pan and put in flat head screws and lock nuts to hold the jello mold off of the drip pan. I also cut a hole in a vented pot lid and JB Welded a dial thermometer left over from an unused BBQ grill into it. It lets me be pretty precise on temperature control. I use a propane burner similar to the one in your photos and find that I can get the flame down pretty low.
