Been fishing on open water and ice for 40 years and tieing what I guess is called the trilene knot for 30 of those since I learned it in high school. Served me well but have had some "pig tails" on jigs now and again that are failed knots.

Moved to more braid to swivel to flouro on all of my open water rigs, which is causing more of an issue with that know ant those fibers. Brief research showed the Palomar knot as a good braid knot, so I have learned that one. Seems very easy...almost too easy...but reports are strong and it's been around a long time. I guess time will tell.

Know I'm getting old or find joy in different things then in the past when excited about learning a new fishing knot! :)

Been using the Palomar for 40 years. Very good knot and definitely the go to knot for super lines.

The Palomar is one of my favorites, very strong and easy to tie.Works well on ALL line types, the only disadvantage is your rig has to go through the loop, and it wastes a bit of line. Be sure that both lines are parallel for their entire length between your hands before you tie the overhand knot, as a twist will weaken the line.

I have been using a Palomar Knot ever since I switched a lot of my fishing to braided line. It is the strongest knot when tested in knot strength wars and it doesn’t slip.

Just make sure you make your loop big enough to make tying easier.

My braid brand of choice has been Suffix 832 Advanced Superline.

Knot wars was an awesome app on my Iphone. Agree on the Palomar Knot and it did test well.

Now if anyone knows what happened to the knot wars app, I'd love to know!

I only tie the Trilene/Improved Clinch knot in the few scenarios where I can't tie a palomar. The Palomar in my opinion is the superior knot in terms of strength, and easier to tie. Over the years I've seen the Trilene pull out a few times, but never the Palomar.

i've turned to the uni knot ! super easy & strong !

Trilene knot is not the same as improved clinch. Trilene knot goes through eye twice then twist, then tag end goes through that double loop. Improved clinch goes through eye once, then twist, tag end goes through the space between eye and first twist and then back through the loop you just made.

Palomar is great if you're tying on something smallish. If I'm fishing small waters around home I tie an improved clinch because it's so easy and has never let me down in those situations.

If I'm in big fish waters it's either the Palomar or fish-n-fool knot, which is quite a bit stronger than the palomar for mono and brain applications, about the same with regards to fluoro. Honestly, if I ever had to choose one knot based on ease of tying and strength across line types the Fish-N-Fool would be the one.

the double uni , just double up the line before running it through the eye , pro bass guys who fish very heavy cover use it often.

Not to be confused with the other double uni, connecting two lines uni to uni. Also not to be confused with the double double uni, which is when you double the line as you describe, usually if you have braid, and then double uni (uni to uni).

^^^ right on tripper . i use to use a blood knot , i think many use the albright but i've gone to the other double uni ;) when it cinches down , it's about as strong as it gets !
