I am planning my first solo trip into Quetico coming from the north at Nym entry paddling south via Batchewaung. I'm looking at a 10 day trip and would like any advice in a suggested route that includes the Sturgeon Lake south into Poohbah/Wink Lakes as my farthest south destination and then returning back to Nym entry. How difficult is it paddling down the stretch of rapids on the Maligne River and then returning back north against the current? And then what should I expect would be the degree of difficulty heading into Poohbah Creek portages to get into the main lakes of Poohbah and Wink area? Is it worth it going into this area for fishing this late in the year or are there other areas down this route you'd suggest be better to include in a 10 day window?? Any advice would be appreciated!

I would think that's totally doable for a 10 day trip. I haven't done the rapids before, but they don't seem too daunting, especially late in the season when water levels will likely be lower. I have done Poohbah Creek and it was not a problem. While lots of people seem to love Poohbah Lake, I'll say we really liked Wink Lake and wished we'd have had more time to spend there. It was a gorgeous lake with great fishing and we had it all to ourselves.

Canoe the North recently put up a YouTube video of a very similar trip. It was from Stanton Bay to Poohbah and back. He did it the hard way. It does include going upstream on the Maligne. From Nym you could join this route on the first day. I think it would probably be easier to head west out of Batchewuang to McAlpine, Kesakokwog, Quetico, Jean and then Sturgeon.

That's an excellent vid. Betty Lou is the star of course!
