Hi all,
The wife and I are starting to plan what I hope will become an annual August long weekend short backcountry trip. She has joined me the last two summers, once on east Pickerel and the other on Batchewaung.

I have done multiple stays on east Pickerel, been in through Nym a few times and Sue Falls twice (although it was long ago) so I am looking at trying something a little different.

We are considering entering at Stanton Bay. There are a couple of options for us:

One....we can use our own vehicle (still unsure if i want to do that considering the road is unknown to me), park there (yes, we are Canadian), stay three or four nights around the west end of Pickerel, then exit at Stanton to use our vehicle to return home.

Or...

Two... we can stay overnight at an outfitter, leave our vehicle at French Lake, use their shuttle to get dropped at Stanton, stay two or three nights around the west end of Pickerel, stay another night in the east end of pickerel, then exit at French Lake to use our vehicle to return home.

I would prefer option two, but the cost is pretty expensive so I am wondering if anyone might be thinking of going in at Stanton Bay this coming August long weekend that might consider sharing the shuttle in order to reduce the costs for us all. Our tentative plan would be to stay the night at Camp Quetico Friday, August 2 and shuttle to Stanton the morning of Sat August 3.

You're over-thinking this. Just drive into Stanton.

Just looking at all options. It might be nice to enter at Stanton and exit at French. Only way to do that is with a shuttle. but we are not jumping up and down abut dropping over $400 in order to do that.

I like your plan to not back track and out at French Lake.

I would totally take you up on this, I like exploring this area, but, unfortunately/fortunately, I am already scheduled to be backpacking on Isle Royale at this time period.

that sounds awesome. lived close by there my whole life and never been there.

If you rent canoe from Camp Quetico(or lodge with them nite before I believe)you can leave car at French,they then shuttle you from French to Stanton bay
