My parents want to do a bwca trip but since they are getting older want to bring a camper for more comfortable sleeping. I am thinking of either having us stay at fall lake or sawbill lake campground. What do you recommend and what lake will be better fishing and better day trips? We do not need amenities and would be going mid September to try to avoid crowds? Thank you

I don't know much about fishing, but Sawbill has a good variety of day trips in both east and west directions. It would be fun to get the outfitter to shuttle you to Baker lake entry and paddle back to Sawbill if you are OK with portaging a bit.

Sawbill is a bit quieter with no motors.

The campground is popular, even in September, so get reservations now if you can.

If you go to Sawbill check out Smoke Lake to the east. Walleye fishing can be good, especially early and late in the day. If you fish in the evening the paddle back to the campground is easily done in the dark.

Sawbill is fabulous! Paddle to the Kelso River area if you like bog plants.
