We've decided to venture back to the BWCA with the whole herd this year. We, Mom and Dad have tripped many times over the years, but this will be only the 2nd trip with the kids. Looking for loop route suggestions for this summer that wouldn't be too much for them and have good fishing opportunities. Doesn't have to be walleye, but that would be nice with a good mix of Northern and Bass as well as Lakers if a lake had them. No preference on gunflint or Ely side.

You don't mention how long you will have and coming up with a permit may be a bit tricky, but I will give it a go:

Smaller Lakes:
Entry 47 - Lizz Lake - (Outfitter - Rockwood Lodge and Outfitting). Paddle across Poplar Lake to the Lizz Lake entry portage. Head to Horseshoe Lake for one night. You are looking for a moose encounter here. Next day take 2 portages to Winchell Lake. Here you can climb the paths to the top of the cliffs for a Photo Op. Find the waterfall on the south shore and climb the paths to the top. Then take the short portage to Ogema Lake and head back east to Henson and Gaskin Lakes. Out the final day.

Larger Lakes
Entry 54 - Sea Gull Lake - (Outfitter- Sea Gull Outfitters.). Paddle to Alpine Lake for your first night. You are paddling through 2 (or 3?) fire areas today. Visit the Sea Gull Lake Pallisades. Take the longer portage into Alpine Lake. The next day head north to Red Rock Lake and Red Rock Bay (of Saganaga Lake). The last day paddle up around the corner to finish at the other side of the parking lot you started at on Sea Gull Lake.

Couple of ideas needing a shuttle:
Entry 50 - Cross Bay Lake - (Outfitter - Tuscarora Lodge and Outfitting or Rockwood). Start here and head south toward Long Island Lake. Turn East and head toward Muskeg and Kiskadinna Lakes. You are exiting Entry 47 - Lizz Lake.

Entry 37 - Kawishiwi Lake - (Oufitter - Sawbill Outfitters). Get a shuttle from Sawbill Lake to Kawishiwi Lake and work your way back to Sawbill along the Lady Lakes chain. Go north to Lake Polly and then turn east along the Phoebe River to Hazel, Knight, Phoebe, Grace, and Beth Lakes. Return to Sawbill through Alton.

The first two have the least amount of portaging. The last two may have more portaging than you want, but if you have more time you can spread them out over more days. You will find the first two to be quite busy. The middle section of the last two will have fewer people.
