Leaving #14 LIS on August 18th for a 7 day trip. We are entertaining going up and into and across LLC and then back down through Agnes over to Oyster and back out #14.
What can I expect as far as campsite availability? First night will most likely be Loon Lake, second night will be somewhere at the top of LLC north of Takumich Lake and the third night will be somewhere in the vicinity east of Gebeonequet.
Planning on laying over the third night for the next day and then proceed to the Oyster River and camp on Oyster and then Lynx.
I know there is some motor boat traffic and that's ok for a day or two but I'm really interested in the archipelagos west of Fish Stake Narrows.
I've been up to the pictographs and Never Fail Bay but that's as far north as I have been on LLC. That trip was out of #16 though. Of course we will have to be mindful of the wind and waves that can happen on the larger lakes. This my seventh consecutive trip into the BWCA. It will just be my son and I. Hoping to single portage as many as we can. Not sure on the three long ones headed back west towards LIS on the last few days but by them most of the food will be gone so who knows.
cowdoc: "Those last portages are wide and flat and pretty easy....you'll be fine."
Yeah, I've been on them before just not single portaging. I usually carry the canoe and a small personal backpack. In order to single portage I'd have to carry the canoe and the large portage pack.
