Looking for feedback on the fishdance pictographs. If I lead a daytrip in from Malberg, will I be be a hero or a goat? Are they worth the trip? My wife really liked the ones on Lac La Croix; are they comparable? Thanks.

IMO, they are not as nice as LLC, but they are still nice to see!

They are more weathered and fewer than on Lac La Croix. We did that day trip from the furthest east campsite on Malberg, it's a pretty long haul but I still think it was worth it.

old thread with decent info
Fishdance is worth the trip, I have done it from Insula before. Eating lunch on top of the cliff is worthwhile.

Fishdance is very doable from Malberg and worth the trip.

Fishdance is well worth the trip. Pretty lake...and the cliffs and pictographs are a bonus.

Does anyone have a time estimate from Malberg to the Pictos? Thanks,

I think it's worth it from Malberg. If I remember right, it's two portages to get there and a nice paddle down the Kawishiwi. It's a good day-trip length and I think they are worth seeing. I'd give yourself maybe 1.5 to 2 hours to get there.

I realize I am late to this discussion, but I thought they were an excellent day trip from Malberg. The cliff face the pictos is impressive in and of itself, and there are some great lunch spots across from the cliff face.

A great day trip from Alice as well.

imo definitely worth the day trip to see the pictos, and hike to the top of the cliff to look around. you could also paddle into Amber lake for fishing.

be sure to take the correct portage from kawishiwi to fishdance, it's flat. there is another trail that heads up the hill to the left of the portage that might still have a bunch of old crap from long time ago.

They pictos are cool here, and theres a few to look at, as people have posted but something no one has mentioned and Im not sure if it interests you but this is also a good site for cliff jumping. Jump at your own risk, and always check the water below for rocks and depth, but there is a great spot about 50 yards down from the paintings.

Worth the trip, for sure. It's a neat area. If you're lucky there won't be too many people climbing up the rocks and jumping off. (Insert picture of tongue-in-cheek here) --Goose

Really, there are fish in every lake, I try to see any picto's when Im in the area. I would fish on the way there & on the way back, the Kawishiwi River has great fishing.
