Steve, camped two nights on gull in 2002 at sight near Peitro portage.the other sights, mainly the island, looked better but were taken. That sight was small but open and close to the water.although the wife and I had no visitors, there was bear droppings all around the sight. Caught biggest smallmouth to date, 21", northerns and walleye in little bay just east of the campsight using sinking rapala black and silver minnows. tom

Did a day trip into Gull from Bald Eagle last August. The two island campsites looked nice. I think the 2nd/further northeast one looked better. Didn't fish much but did catch some northern dragging a rapala behind the canoe while we explored.

Did this portage last June. Take a look at my trip report for details. Click on the little report Icon under my name. In short, it is not too bad, a bit long but Gull and Pietro are worth the trip.
Take'm to the Wilderness, introduce them to the wonders of God's creation. They will be better for it.

Steve,
You will enjoy your venture into the Gull/Pietro Lake area. Pretty country, good campsites, good fishing and not a lot of people. You will have two portages in between B.E. and Gull. The first is a little under 200 rods. The first 50 rods is a small climb, the next 50 is rolling and the balance slowly descends to the lake. The put-in at the creek is very small with numerous rocks interferring with getting out into the creek. The second portage is 40 rods with the first 10 a little uphill and then descending to the lake.
The only campsite that we have used is the center one on the north shore. It was quite acceptable and I won't hesitate to recommend it.
Gull and Pietro are both real good smallie lakes and Gull also has some real nice pike. Have fun.
