Big enough and wide enough for a pickup!

Like this near Muskeg and Mud Lakes. Use the search function and you should find a couple of more posts about the portage.

I did the 1st half (up to Ella Hall) last year and it looked like the pics that are posted, not bad at all but will get a bit wet.

The 2nd half (from Ella Hall to Basswood)I haven't seen in about 4 years - and don't plan on seeing again. It was horrid. Some crazy beaver had turned a good sized chunk of the portage into a pond. Enough so that we though we found the lake, until we boated up and started paddling only to realize shortly, this was still part of the portage. As you can guess, this area had more nasty skeeters than I can describe.

As for "driving a truck down it" - that was many, many years back and there is no way that could happen with the portage when I saw it, fairly overgrown.

I would say you are crazy to try it - but if you do - good luck!

The Four-mile portage is used today as mostly a winter route to Basswood by ski or dogsled.

Big enough and wide enough for a pickup???????????????
It was 30 years ago, but is nothing more than a flooded, grown in goat path for the most part now!!
