Any insurance guys out there that don't mind abandoning their professional code for the good of the group?

What stipulations (i.e. fine print) in an insurance policy could negate a payoff to the family of a solo tripper who bites the big one?

If I'm ever looking up at the sky sucking down my last breaths, I'd love to be thinking about the beauty of the wind in the treetops and not worrying about some technicality that's going to leave my wife destitude on top of her grief (or relief) about my demise.

My specialty is travel insurance plus I know quite a bit about property and casualty coverages. Life insurance -- not so much. However, the life policies I'm familiar with will pay in the scenario you described. There should be no clauses that would deny coverage for that situation.

What, no "acts of God" that may negate life insurance? (struck by lightning, eaten by a bear ...)

I'll leave this to the life insurance experts, but unless there's some pre-existing medical condition which might be excluded, I think the only reason for not paying would be committing suicide within two years of buying the policy. My information is very dated so I might not be correct. I'm quite certain, however, that there is no "becoming dinner for a large carnivore" exclusion..... Lol

First off...I am not planning on "testing" this out for anyone...
I however am certain that if you meet your demise, in the woods, your beneficiary will get the $$$$$$.
I for one hope none of us need to test this out though.
(I had all my insurance licenses at one time including Life and Health, in the days gone by used to be an Independent Insurance Agent Many moons ago)

My wife is an insurance agent. She sells life and other stuff. I will NOT ask for fear of her response!!!

Seriously, I don't think it's a problem. The major clause is suicide within a specified period of time. Likely some issues with not disclosing a pre-existing condition or disease as well.

If your asking if there is a stupidity clause, I really don't think so.

I'm sure a clever claims adjuster would say that going solo is the same as committing suicide.

What if the body was not recovered, but the canoe was found twisted in the rapids..................

How long until payout?
