That is tempting if I wasn't already coming off the Superior Hiking Trail the weekend before. Have a good hike.

Thanks for the offer! I will be doing yard work that weekend and wishing that I was on the Pow Wow Trail.
How many times have you hiked that trail Talusman? I have only to hike the Sioux Hustler trail before I can start rehiking the BWCA trails. :)
Oops looks like this thread is a couple months old. Are you still going?

Can't go Mem Day weekend. I still want to go sometime this year. It's one of those things that I've planned a few times but something always comes up. I have done it once though and parts about 4 or 5 times.

Oh how I love the pow wow. We are going to check out snowbank lake on that weekend. I'm sure it will pale on comparison! Have you done pow wow before? Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to this website... I love the campsite at path lake. I hope the fire didnt reboot everything on that trail.

My understanding is that the trail was basically obliterated by yhe fire, that the Forest Service considers the trail closed, and isn't sure if it will ever reopen. A group of volunteers is working with the FS to try to save it, but it's not easy.

Wow that's a bummer. That's one of my favorite all time trips. The view from rock of ages camp was incomparable to anything I've seen elsewhere. In fact I still have that photo in my screen saver rotation.

I found myself basecamped on Lake Two about a week before the fire. Got restless and walked a ways down the trail. Didn't know there was going to be a fire, of course.

That Rock of Ages site was gorgeous. I have a few picks from a few days before the fire happened. I'd like to get back to see what it looks like, if possible.

It was a solo... but if it helps I will say I went...lol ;-)
He told me he found a cash of things at the Horseshoe or Wilder lake camp site...
4 foil tuna pouches unopened
2 fry pans
nice hatchet
Trash of all sorts
No report of panties though...;-<

All items were removed but not from the wilderness area...just too much to carry.

Was on the PW with a crew of nine this last weekend and cleared from the portage between Lake 3 and Horseshoe, down just slightly beyond rock of ages. Kawisiwi FS has a gps mark exactly where we stopped.

One mile south of that lake three portage, we lost the trail for a solid two plus hours. We finally found a cairn 1/4 -1/2 mile to the south and played connect the dots the best we could.

I've heard third party reports that MCC cleared from lake three to Pose.

If we could get some boots up there to help stomp down some new tread, that trail would be in business!

No need for third party reports...I have the condensed CCM&I report.

"Crews cleared deadfall from the Lake Three/Horseshoe Lake portage east to Pose Lake. Trail clearing was for a 4ft wide/6ft high corridor on the 7-mile stretch. Priority was for the removal of deadfall that couldn’t be stepped over or easily traveled around. They also cleared deadfall and other over-grown vegetation from Isabella Lake trailhead to Pose Lake."

I have a address and phone number too if you want to contact him but I won't post it.

Yes, Martin "tried" to hike it over Labor Day...they had to turn back as the lost their way in the tangle of tree falls and fire weed 5 feet tall.

How far up it did he get,did he start at Isabella lake?

Use to hike it and grouse hunt it for years and in the 70's their was side branches leading to Arrow lake etc.. Seen some really big bull moose on it over the years.

They went left to Quadga...not much pat it though.
I think if you wanted to grouse hunt you would be fine.
