Will be at EP 23 in a week. Any reports on the condition of the portages (wet, muddy, ect.)

really depends on where you are going, all portages are different (rocky, muddy, sandy, flat, hilly). If you are staying close to ep23, mud will not be an issue.

Heading to fourtown.

We traveled the three portages from Fourtown to Mudro last Monday. We were able to walk the creek bed because of low water (to the right in the photo) on the portage adjacent to Fourtown Lake versus climbing up the cliff (cliff is steeper than it appears in photo).
You will be approaching that portage from the opposite way so you will follow the creek to your left. It will be your third portage.

I don't think you will encounter any mud. Just steep climbs and rocks.

Be careful. We thought they were very rugged portages but worth the effort.

We were in Boot Lake last week and Zulu's comments are spot on. It rained on Friday morning before we left Boot, but by the time we got to the portages, they were all dry.

Thanks Zulu, when you say walked the creek do mean packs in the canoe and pulling it along.

No, you just walk down the creek with your packs or canoe as if it is part of the portage instead of walking / sliding down the side of the rock. There is not enough water in the creek bed to float the canoe. This picture does not show the creekbed, but it does show the side of the rock you want to avoid.
