...is an experience in itself. Traveled via the Long Legged Road, my speed varied from 15 mph to maybe 25, took between 3 & 4 hours!!! Cannot be completely sure because it was 1am when I got on it and some time after 4am when I got to Leano Lake. It is 60 miles of washboard with the last few miles even worse. Half the road is washed away in one spot. It will shake the fillings out of your teeth.
Saw a Lynx, lots of rabbits, a big bull mouse, and what I think might have been a cougar. Long front arms, light colored, as big as a hunting dog but definitely a feline. If not for the large rack on the moose I might have hit it, as I did not see the animals body due to the dark color. Wish I had been able to get a picture of it but on a road like this your concentration is fully on driving.
Perhaps I misunderstood postings by others, but I have to disagree. I returned via Red Lake, the Iriam Road is NOT in better condition, it simply is shorter at ~36 miles and took me 2 hours at an average speed of 17 mph (according to my GPS). I travelled it 9pm-11pm. Thus I would have to say take the Iriam Road to Leano Lake rather than Long Legged, not because it is in better shape, but because it will take less time (despite being longer) and cut your time in half being on a graded (note the difference, it is NOT gravel) road. Every place the road goes up or down a hill the loose and small pieces has washed away leaving fist sized rock that can roll your vehicle off the road if you are going too fast.

"The adventure begins when you leave the pavement..." I've used that line many times. Important to note that conditions of the backcountry roads leading to any of WCPP's road access points receive minimal to no maintenance and are forever changing. One must mind the flagging along the way that will alert drivers to the rough patches. This season, without the heavy rains and overflowing beaver ponds, the roads were a tad more stable but even so, drivers need to be alert and anticipate the soft shoulders or the partially washed out road surfaces.

Park permits for WCPP are not available online as we are not on the reservation system. Reservation not required here... no entry quota... but you do have to register and obtain a permit to enter. You can obtain them by mail, in person at OntarioPark's office in REd Lake, or at one of 2 Self-Serve Kiosks. Most popular means of obtaining a WCPP interior camping permit is now by e-mail. Must still phone the park office to register, arrange payment, and a permit is sent to your inbox on the same day or following day.
