I have usually carried my camera gear to the BWCA in a camera pack. I use a DSLR and bring a telephoto lens, flash and various accessories to photograph the landscape and fellow campers. I'm looking for a lightweight tripod that I can strap to the camera pack that will put up with the rigors of an extended trip. Currently I use a Bogen/Manfrotto 190 with a 498RC2 ball head but it's a bit cumbersome and heavy. . Does anyone use a carbon fiber tripod and if so how does it hold up for rough use? Which one do you use?
Watch out for that rock!!!........ Oooo.... That's going to leave a mark...
I'm reviving this question. I'm hoping someone can help as I have been wondering about what kind of tripod to take as well. I have a very large Bog Pod that my husband and I use for hunting. I can attach my camera to it, but it's pretty bulky and heavy. I'm looking for something lighter and smaller. I'll also be toting a couple 3-piece fishing rods strapped to my pack. I just don't want to get too carried away. I did see someone mention in a thread that they strapped the tripod under the seat in their canoe.
Reviving this question once again. I have a tripod in which the legs can be adjusted individually if the terrain is uneven. The problem is, each leg has tension screws so the adjustments for each leg are cumbersome. Is there a good, somewhat lightweight tripod that the legs can be adjusted quickly or just not so cumbersome to adjust. Thanks for your help.
