After buying a Tacoma I have been on a search for a good canoe rack. It has not been an easy search. Very few options fit on the Tacoma because of its track system, and the ones that did were very expensive. So I made my own. Thought that maybe some one might me interested in seeing it. If not oh well.
I uses 3/4 inch water pipe, its the same as the Yakima bars. I used Kee Klamp for the joints. Its really stable and its just high enough that my bikes fit under it. Over all I'm really happy.
Its just a 1 inch piece of flat steel that I drill holes in. Then stuck a bolt through. On the back to get the bars level I had to put some spacers in. I think all told I have a 120 in supplies in so its not a dirt cheap option but better then the 600-800 the Thule would have run me.
