I used my hennesey asym explorer with the larger hex rain fly for 2 years now. I thought I was setting it up like on the hennesey web site video. They show the fly getting clipped to the hammock ridge line thru a prussig knot atttached to a plastic hook. If u do it that way, the longest part of the fly is not lined up with the hammock ridgeline. The longest part of the hex fly has plastic triangles attached to a longer cord. I dont know if I am making any sense, but the set up video on the hennesey web site has me confused. Am I confused-or was that video misleading. I have decided though based on feedback here to hang a separate ridgeline for the fly and then secure the fly to the ridgeline by tying the plastic triangles to the ridgeline. That way the long axis of the fly will line up w the hammock.

Not sure what they might have changed on the hex flies. My reg tarp just has the plastic 'O' ring that snaps into the clip. Pretty straight forward. Is there a chance that you're using the wrong corners to fasten to the clip?

papzoo- Again I can answer exactly what you ask since I used the HH hex 70D last summer. I used a separate ridgeline with prussic loops to adjust the tension and position of the tarp. Works great and gives great coverage. You can raise the tarp up some as it has long enough sides. That way you get headroom.
See pics. In the end-on pic the red cord attached to the orange biner is a prussic loop.

I also have an explorer deluxe and a Hex tarp. I noticed you do use the side tieouts on the hammock. Do you prefer it that way? I just got back from a trip down the Current River. Night time temps got to upper 30's both nights. I used an over cover, a JRB nest underquilt and tied the hex tarp low. . .I was actually too warm the first night. Used a Marmot 20 degree bag inside.

Mark - In the first pic the tie out is deployed. The second and third pic no tie was used. I was experimenting.
I prefer using the tie out, especially for the shelf.
NOTE: The set up shown in pics 2&3 has the tarp pulled down close as it looked like rain was coming. That also restricted the tie out area.

Sorry, I reread and saw your mention of the RL.

Yes. I like the separate ridgline for the tarp. I can hang wet clothes there and during the night they generally dry. Also, using the separate line, I can move the tarp back and forth to get the right coverage for the hammock. It is not the lightest method, but it is just easier for me. I have recently gone to zing-it for my ridgeline and so I have cut weight. Also, the zing-it doesn't soak up water like paracord or regular clothesline.
