So i own a Black Diamond Orbit Lantern and while it is a great little light for backpacking, I find I don't like it for winter. I don't like the cold, bluish tint it throws, and I wish it threw more light. I own a 4 person tent and it feels like I walk into a dim cave at night.

Any suggestions? What do you use?

I hang 3 little LED flashlites from a line that runs the length of my Snowtrekker tent. In the evening, the one that is located above the door is the only one that runs continuously until bed time. It gives me just enough light to see where everything is and I like the fact that it's not really very bright. Sit around the stove, stare into the fire, heat some water for a nice warm hot chocolate. Bright enough to pour a little Jack Daniels into my enamel cup, but not so bright as to be intrusive.

The lights in the middle and the other end get turned on as needed, and if I have a lot of in the tent chores, there are times when all three might be on at the same time. I also have a head lamp that I use if I venture out of the tent or decide to read awhile after snuggling into my sleeping bag.

To me, the lack of a bright light is comforting and calming and is a nice respite for me.

I use a ring led light, like used around patio umbrellas. lights up the tent really well.

If you are interested in the liquid fuel type, I use a Coleman peak 1 lantern. gives off good light and heat. been using one for years now.

I like coleman LED lanterns.I use the pack away lantern. Its about all I need to light my Snowtrekker.

I use candles, but am always looking for something lighter. ;)
I heard a radio commercial for Northern Bright Lights today, and thought about trying them out. I already have a small 12v battery that would work well.

I have two small (8" tall) laterns that have 9 leds. Have a handle to carry with, like a normal latern, and a loop for hanging from a hook. The switch allows to dim from the off position to full bright. 1 will light up the entire living room so a tent would be no prob. Also uses 2 D-cell batts so good, long life power. Of course, not real good for heat though.

I have this light and love it. It allows you to swivel the bulb downwards so it acts like a lightbulb, without and dark void beneath the lantern. I used it in a military canvas tent (which is cave-like) and it worked really well:

Now it is LED which means it does not throw off an overly warm light, but the battery life and light is very good. I hung it off the center pole of my tent.

Well, this was just such an intresting idea that I had to share. I was reading over at Wintertrekking.com about tent lighting recommendations. A couple of those guys get battery powered LED Christmas lights, similar to this one: LED chrismas lights
I found that interesting because they make a warm light LED glow. I'll have to give it a try and report back in.

White canvas reflects light well so I use an LED electric lantern. I used to use white gas Coleman's but they are dangerous in an enclosed space and through too much light for anything but reading or close work like skinning an animal.
