There are also some nice trails on the south side of Slim lake (EP# 6)

I re-started hiking in 2012, but haven't gotten up north...yet.

cool and thanks. Like Jim, I started backpacking again last year when a chance to go to Philmont arose. Would like to try these. Lakeside campsites without a canoe - not bad.

The Big Moose ~ Cummings portage trail also offers an excellent opportunity to stretch the legs sans packs & canoes.

I envy you folks who live close enough to BW to do day trips and short weekenders. I am currently trying to hike through the IL St Parks, at least those big enough to actually hike. The trails aren't bad, but the camping is, to be polite, less than optimal. So many folks who don't care how much noise they make late into the night/early morn.
