Hi. Staring to plan some trips for possibly next summer and Pukaskwa has been on my list for awhile. Anyone here ever hike the Coastal Hiking Trail in Pukaskwa? Think it is possible to do an out and back trip on it in 8 days? Pretty rugged? Comparable to the Superior Hiking Trail? Thanks for any and all info.

It is possible, and from their trip reports others have done so, but maybe not the most enjoyable way to do it. The trip planner put out by the park recommends ten days for that trip, and that's without any rest days. Other people's trip reports concur with that, even recommending up to 14 if you want time to fish, enjoy scenery, etc. and take a leisurely pace.

Bottom line, I think you can do it in 8, and you'll just have to decide if that's what you want to do.

I'm thinking of doing it with kayaks. 2 people kayak in and hike out. 2 hike in and paddle the kayaks that were left by the other 2. Should be easy to do in a week.

That sounds like the far superior approach, talusman! Now if only I had three friends who would do such a thing...

Agreed. That's how I'd want to do it. It'd be tough planning the paddling part when you don't know when to expect high seas. But then there would only be two-three days to worry about, depending on how often you delay for photo's etc.

I have 2 kayaks and the wife would want to go, so I'm seriously looking for 2 or some even number. Time would be the end of July or August. We live up the shore. The park is one day from here. Any takers?
