Having just finished reading the thread on bacon I thought I would throw my two cents into the conversation from a different perspective.

I have a cooler that slides down nicely inside a Kondos food pack. I prepack all of my frozen food into meal sized amounts. I then take 2 1/2 gallon jugs of OJ and freeze putting them in the cooler. Then I start to layer my frozen foods with the first couple of days of foods being on top. I have routinely taken fresh meats for several days on canoe trips. Last summers trip had steaks, porkchops, chicken breasts, and duck breasts for dinner meals. We had bacon and eggs with a nice glass of ice cold OJ to go with breakfast. The last meal of fresh bacon was consumed a day 6 and was still partially frozen in the center.

I will say that no one has ever complained about going hungry on my trips!
