Lake trout and pike. Memorable portaging to get there.

Only caught lake trout there. Sorry - can't help with depths.

I only caught lakers, too, but no big ones. I have a hard time believing there are smallmouth in there, considering the isolated nature of the lake and the numerous barriers along the Cache River.

I've seen lakers and northern as well, and supposedly there are some big lake trout (but we didn't catch any). Parts of Cache are pretty deep, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were some big ones in there.

Which way are you going in? Baptism? That's a tough haul, be prepared. Going up Baptism, especially if the water is low, is a tough slog with 4 portages and, at times, multiple drag-over spots. And the Trousers-Cache portage is a real bear.

Yes, baptism is my chosen route. I no it is not going to be easy. My main goal is zephira.

I also echo others' statements, that we would LOVE to see your trip journal and pictures. Zephira is one of those "spots" I've always wanted to go, and where I doubt many people have ever been (since Quetico became a park).

Oh also, since you will be on Cache and trying for Zephira, in case you didn't know, there is a nice beach campsite on the eastern shore of the northern part of the lake.

Thank you, for the info on the nice campsite.
