I have had two good trips into the BWCA and some local trips with the ALPS XL self inflating pad. 77"x30"x3". A real big pad to transport, but worth it in comfort until I get an underquilt.

I used a full length thermarest in my Hennessey years ago. It worked, but I prefer it without a pad crowding up the interior. I now use the HH SuperShelter with an underpad (outside the hammock). Much more comfortable this way.

I've used both Thermarest and Exped (full length) in a HH and they both worked well. Personally I like using the Thermarest a bit better in the hammock because it doesn't have the ribs running the entire length of the pad. It's almost as if the ribs on the Exped cause it to lay less flat (it kind of folds up on itself...but just a bit). The Thermarest seems to lay a tad bit flatter.

Before I had an underquilt, I used a 3/4 length (49") self inflating thermarest in my Hennessy. I wouldn't have wanted to go any longer than that. A full length would put you in an uncomfortable position.

I have used the exped XP9 (26inch wide) about 10 years ago.

Pros:
Warm
The extra width was nice cause I am a side sleeper

Cons:
Cramped
Pain in the rear getting in and out

This response may be "preaching to the choir", but remember to NOT fully inflate the pad. You'll find it much more comfortable if only inflated 35% to 50% full.
