Has anyone backpacked the magnetic rock trail, border route trial and the grand portage trail? How long did it take? Which direction did you hike? Did you camp/ is there a possible campsite between magnetic rock and Loon Lake. Who did you use as your shuttle? I was thinking of using grand portage lodge as parking/ shuttle (if they offer those services) and hike east back to my vehicle.

A few years ago there was a makeshift campsite at the top of Bridal Veil Falls.

Just joined... So sorry for the delay...

It is my understanding after months of frustrating research you cannot hike the brt into the grand portage. The grand portage tribe will not allow hikers. There is no legal way to get to the start of the grand portage on the river except through the grand portage, or by a canoe.

We hiked from the western end of Loon Lake to Swamp River for a total of 64 miles. It took us 5 days, 4 nights. We hiked the last week in May last year and the trail conditions were very good. We hiked at a moderate pace, I would plan 12 to 15 miles per day for a very nice hike. From what I understand it is almost impossible to hike through to the Grand Portage Trail.
