I am almost certain that the stone stairway on the Beaver-Adams portage was the work of the CCC. The stairway is a work of art and a work of brute strength. The trail is one of my favorites and I salute those who built this trail. Pictures taken September 21, 2006.
"Boredom, Tyler - that's what's wrong. And how do you beat boredom, Tyler?... Adventure...(Never Cry Wolf, 1983)
yes salute... I must say this a favorite. though nature's art. built by men of conviction and their own artistry. But... if passage to boulder is "dead" this will be soon as well. I know one year there was NO getting from adams to boulder and thus the trip was "re-designed". but truly amazing trail.
now the Muskeg-kiskadina has a "interesting" stairway as well. except built by nature. and a lot steeper. hard to get a picture to show it justice.
it would be interesting to know if this was at the hands of the CCC. back in the day, the USFS had more hands and feet on the forest so perhaps it was forest service. have you contacted anyone in the Kawishiwi district office to know for certain?
this was from 2009, one of my favorite portages of all time.
