Hello all,
I'm looking to buy a hammock, and in looking at the Hennessy hammocks, the tarps that come with the hammock look a bit small for complete coverage. These *seem* like a good deal because 1) they come with a tarp and 2) they are on sale on Amazon, but if I need to buy a new, properly sized tarp, they'll end up being more expensive.

I have no personal experience with any Hennesy products. However, I recall reading about folks complaining that the Hennesy tarp does not keep the hammock dry during heavy rains.

tarp|pcrid|4353486955| I have had my hh expedition for 10 years. I have used the stock tarp and have stayed dry under it. the new tarp provides complete storm protection. I also have used my cooke tarp as well. since owning the expedition I have had a zipper put on it, changed the suspension to straps and dutch clips, made an underquilt and purchased an underquilt protector from 2qzq. love my hh, you'll enjoy yours, any help you need, ask.

Thanks for the quick advice, guys.
It's kind of funny...I've forgotten how intimidating/confusing getting involved in something new can be. So many variables: the suspension systems, the many brands of hammocks, the kinds of tarps, etc. etc. etc. Uff da.
Like anything else, I'm sure it'll be a learn-as-you-go process. I've been able to find SO much great stuff online--both in the forums and on youtube--that the learning curve ought to be shortened, at least a little. But jumping in that first time is the tough part. :)

I bought the Expedition Asym with the oversized Hex fly years ago. The fly that came with the hammock was way too small in my opinion. I have since sold the HH but kept the Hex Fly to use with my current hammock set up. I've never had an issue with the Oversized Hex Fly and it has always kept me dry
Heres a shot to show what kind of coverage it provides:

Carmike,
I'm pretty new to hanging myself, so no expert...
I got my Hennesy from Hennesy. They always have a good "freebie". Right now it's a free Cub Zip hammock. That little bugger has many uses!
I bought a used hex fly after camping under the stock fly. I really like having both. While camping in WCPP i used the stock fly as an extra tarp in camp, a wind block, an under cover for my hammock, and used it instead of the hex fly at one camp because there wasn't room for the hex fly to be deployed.
While I do prefer the hex fly, had I learned more before switching I would be perfectly fine with the stock fly. In other words, the fly wasn't the problem, my lack of experience was. Prussic loops and carabeeners were my salvation.
I don't think Hennessy is the best in any category. They are the car equivelent of a Chevrolet. Cheaper than a Cadilac and not on the same leage as a BMW. It's a really good place to start. And being a beginner, I also recommend their Super Shelter for your under insulation. A down underquilt may be better, but a lot more expensive and a bit more of a learning curve. You will need under insulation.
