Does the underquilt replace a sleeping pad, or is it still recommended to use both? I've been exclusively hammocking for 3 years now, so I think I can justify the purchase!

I have never used an underquilt, I have a 20 degree bag, and a 1.5 inch self inflating pad. I rig my tarp to block most of the wind and I have never been cold. I usually camp in May and late September. I've never been out below 30 degrees, so I don't know how I would hold up with lower temps

I couldn't use a pad. Tried and failed.

While there's nothing that says you can't use both, you don't need to. There is no need for cushion from the pad, and the UQ provides the warmth.

Throw your pad away.

Cool!

I've got a nice pad, but I'd love to ditch it. It migrates throughout the night, and even when aligned my arms tend to get cold.

This will be a nice upgrade. Thanks!

The vast majority of folks find the UQ to be far more comfortable and provides better insulation. I heartily agree.

the uderquilt doesn't replace the pad, it just adds a great deal of warmth underneath you. ive used the inflatable thermos-rest pad, i just dont inflate it all the way. But ive found more comfort it in a small piece of foam padding and my underquilt.
