We are going in from Crane Lake, with a tow from Zups....they stop at Customs, then at Zups(we buy our licences at Zups) then to the Ranger Station to pay our fees then on to our entry #43 McAree.

Fishguts---if you are getting a tow from Zups they can get your permits for you ahead of time so you don't have to waste time at the ranger station===if you are going to use the most expensive tow service you might as well use all of the benefits :)

Nathan you can buy a license at the Lac La Croix ranger station, at the cutoms station on Crane Lake, or you can order one over the phone--allow 6 weeks for delivery. Go to the Ontario MNR website and you should be able to find the number to order.

Tim,
Because we are outfitted by Doug Jordan's and not Zups they won't let Zups get our permit and pay our camping fees.......at least it was that way 2 years ago......It may be different now.....or not?

Nate, the ranger station is on the way to Bottle. By jetboat, I am guessing it is a half hour or so.

Thr ranger cabin was relocated some years ago. It used to be just a bit past the pictos (coming up from the south), but they built a new one just east of First Nation Indain Reservation. About mid point across the top of LLC. I'd order my license over the phone if you aren't going to be passing by the ranger cabin.

Don't you have to go to the ranger station anyway? I don't think there is any other way to get a permit. As far as I know the only place the Canadians allow you pick up a permit is a licensed Canadian Outfitter like Zups or at the designated station.

Nathan if you are just going to day trip to Quetico (don't know your intentions) the phone order is probably the best option although as I think about it you still technically need a Quetico day pass ($7 day last time I checked) to enter Quetico legally--so I guess you would need to go to a station for that anyway.

Fishguts--I went through Voyaguer North in 2002--they set up the tow with Zups and they set it up so Zups could give us our permits. So I'd check again with your outfitter----or just bring your permit info/confirmation number to Zups when you stop off at their Island and ask if they can issue your permit. Would save ya a little time.

Tim

It is my understanding that you can fish the Canadian side of LLC with a valid Ontario fishing license. It is technically not Quetico to my knowledge. Of coarse, there may be a customs issue since you are in Canadian waters without going through customs.
