Sleep on your back? ;-)

I'm a stomach sleeper but have no problem sleeping on my back in a hammock.

I sleep on my stomach in the bed, but side or back in the hammock and actually sleep quite well waking up very rested. Lay down at an angle, the footbox in the warbonnet and some other hammocks helps with that. My first hammock was a double wide and allowed the angle lay quite nicely.

I like to sleep on my stmach at home but usually do side in a hammock. Just make sure you are laying on a diagonal and the hammock is set up right. I think you'll be fine.

Stomach sleeper here. Was worried I wouldn't be comfortable in a hammock. But stomach sleeping in a tent on a mat is not comfortable either.

After my warbonnet XLc purchase I tried napping in it a few times in the basement. Was comfy. But I didn't fall asleep. Add to the worries...

The day came for a five night trip. Hammock only no backup. That first night I got real comfy on my back and fell asleep wondering if I would sleep ok.

And next thing i know, I wake up the next morning.

A hammock is like ambien to me. If I didn't have a wife I would throw my bed out and string the hammock up in my bedroom.

As other have mentioned you will probably sleep in different positions in a hammock from what you do in a bed. I have a Black Bird Warbonnet and I cant sleep comfortably on my stomach. Some of the bridge hammocks are reported to be stomach sleeper friendly. Information on hammocks.
and More information

I am same boat, being a stomach sleeper but sleep on back in hammock. I sleep much better in my hammock, there was a bit of a learning curve but after a few times I have no problems falling asleep. I have heard of very few people that have been comfortable stomach sleeping in a hammock.

I'm not sure there is any way to hang any hammock that will allow you to sleep on your stomach.

I've tried many different hammocks, not all certainly, but the flattest lying hammock I've found is the Clark Jungle Hammock Flex 180 model. It has 3 attachment points which allows for the tightest hang and flattest lie that I know of.

Even so, the best I can do is sleep on my side.

The best value in so-called starter hammocks is the Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) with bugnet, IMO. Fairly inexpensive and if hung properly, still provides a restful, comfortable nights sleep.

So if I want to try to nap on my back would a cheap rope hammock be out of the question? Any decent inexpensive models recommend?

I cannot speak to the quality of the product, but I have seen a hammock at Wal-Mart (near chairs and cots in the camping area) for around $25. It should last long enough to give you an idea of what a hammock feel like.

This was my starter hammock - still use it and it works great. I actually got mine a little cheaper, but for $40 you cant go wrong!

I will second this hammock as the best value for intro to hammocks. It comes up for sale on Woot.com periodically for $25.

I am a side sleeper at home. When in my hammock I sleep on my back or side and all of a sudden it's morning. After a long day of fishing, paddling and setting up camp I have no problem falling asleep on my back.
