I retired mid-winter. I have the luxury of catching up on all of the projects at home I have put off for a number of years when I was too busy like everyone else.
And now? I am planning on my annual Q solo---something I had to calendar at work months in advance to keep my schedule clear. This year is a tad different. I told my wife tonight at dinner that my projects are winding up and it is time to hit the Q. So June 8th I will head to the Q, heading up to the Piwi and who knows where.
Life is good!

While not retired I have slowed down and have the freedom to take any time I want with only a couple weeks notice. I like not having to plan so far ahead and totally appreciate what GC is saying here. If it weren't for those pesky projects I probably would trip more.
Enjoy your trip to where ever you go.

Take it while you can, those home projects come in waves... at least for me.

Congrats, I am sure it's much deserved. I can not wait. I only have 15 yrs in at my company and still have to pick every one of my vacation days in January. I can't believe people thought in the beginning all this was a great idea. It's a painful way to make a living.

I am counting down those days. I have a fair amount of flexibility and 6 weeks but still not enough. Enjoy the trip.

I much prefer retirement.

While working, I almost dreaded leaving on vacation. The work load just piled up for me while I was gone, so the coming back to work was so bad, I didn't want to go in the first place.

It's nice to be able to come back without having to worry about what is waiting for you.

I retired almost sixteen years ago at age 50.

Enjoy your time. It passes very, very quickly.

Congrats, enjoy it, your house projects will be there when you get back, they never seem to go away.

Good for you Don, retirement is a BLAST!
I don't bother with EP reservations anymore, take what is available even if it means camping at a state of fed campground for a few days.
