Im going fishing the first of June and would like to know some suggestions for what has worked best for pike fishing.

daredevils and shadraps

Daredevil 5 of diamonds
Big yellow/green bladed ugly spinner bait
Stringer of smallmouth hanging off the canoe

white spinner with gold blades or rapala x-raps.

Just about anything red and white.

Orange Mepps Syclops spoon.

Smithwick Rogues!

I love fishing for pike and spend a lot of time doing it. The short answer is they will eat anything that looks like it is alive or once was. The key is making sure they can see it (or sense it) and getting the right size of lure for what they are feeding on at that time.

If I had to pick one lure however I would say Mepps Syclops as well (a lot of flash with this lure).

However, i suggest using crainkbaits as a last resort for pike.
there is great potential for injury with 3 sets of trebles.

back when I was a kid I was fishing with my dad out in our boat just as the sun was getting low. He hooked and landed a small pike on a red and white rapala. he had it in the boat, leaning over it with a pliers trying to dislodge the rear set of trebbles.

Now most who have put a pike in the boat are aware of the "death roll" very similar to what aligators do. this is what a pike does when you put them out of the water.
to shorten the story, the fish rolls, the front treble gets caught in the side of my dads nose, and tears all the way down to the lip. so one treble is attatched to a furious pike, the other is stuck in my dads face! after a wire cutter job to release the fish It required a trip to the er to get the hook out and stiches in place.

Tear off a piece of your shirt, put it on a hook and troll. I've been refining ways not to catch pike, have'nt found one yet.

Two silver Dr. Spoons, two gold Dr. Spoons. Secondarily, a lot of the other things that have been mentioned above.

I've heard good things about the X-Rap so I'm going to try that this year.

Regarding trebles/crankbaits, I always take every treble off & just leave the back one on. I haven't noticed any difference in hooking fish, although I'm sure I miss one once in a while due to the 'missing' hooks.

We prefer 16" walleyes on a stringer for bait. Here is how to do it. Catch walleyes in the evening decide to clean in morning. Tie the stringer of walleyes to anchor and place about 30 feet out from shore in 8' of water. In the morning instead of 3 walleyes this is what is on the stinger. 37" 14.5Lbs. Of Northern Pike and 2 Walleyes.

That is great and classic. I also take all but the rear treble off on crankbaits, sometime use a single hook on the middle one. Don't think i miss any strikes, and IMO the potential for trouble around the boat is smaller.

like kanoes said, five o diamonds (has caught the most pike in the groups i go with). But pike get caught on almost anything. Just do some trolling with spoons or rapalas in areas where the lake narrows, has a hump, or other structure on lakes in the bwca. And if you want to keep your lures and pike, use a leader to prevent bite off.

I bring a variety of colors of spoons and raps. I've found some lakes take orange some take yellow. It all depends. I haven't noticed any difference in the type of design. We were on a lake one time and the only thing that would get them was orange anything. Red and white and black and white have also worked........I feel my tackle box getting heavier and heavier........

I've had good luck with Mepps in-line spinners #5 with silver blades (skirt color hasn't mattered), syclops, daredevils, Rapala stick baits (floating), and any type of rattling bait.
With the Rapalas my dad and I like to cast the bait and let it sit for a couple of seconds and after the ripples dissipate twitch it hard and make a small splash, rest and then do it again. This gets their attention and makes it look more like a wounded bait fish and an easy snack. After about three jerks like this start to reel it in and if they didn't hit it during the jerking part this is when they will hit it.

Last year, I brought all my tackle (crazy). I had my best luck with a blue Storm 3" dark blue shad jig with the paddle tail(looks like a cisco). Also a dark blue top water popper. This year, I will be up there again the the 1st week of June with the same lures BUT less tackle.

I do what Buz does. Take off all but the rear trebles on crankbaits.

I like to use a #5 mepps spinner. It's my "go to" lure for pike. The flash and vibration of the blade is what attracts them.

Everyone has already said what I use, so I concur.
