Taking my first trip up the BWCA and spending 5 days/4 nights on Basswood. Does anyone have a current fishing report? Hot/Favorite Spots? I plan on staying in the non-motor zone and day tripping around the lake. Looking for a couple walleye for supper with bass and large northern for fun.

Thanks for the help.

Poor soul.......no fish on Basswood. I suggest you move deep into the interior. Always remember (as with other life pursuits)........the further you go the better it gets :-)

MT discovered this the hard way when he wasted a week or so fishing Basswood.

I was up there a couole weeks ago.. no luck on the main lake.. awesome walleye fishing at lewis narrows on pipestone bay and a few nice large pike in the area where pipestone bay and jackfish bay connect .. i was trolling a 5in pearch deep diver rapala from the start of the no motor zone and zig zaged around northern ends of jackfish and pipestone ..
And for the lewis narrows ancor up in the center and cast out a leach and bobber about 20ft from the shore line about 15ft rock shelf there best times are 6-8 am and pm.. good luck out there

I was up there August 17th - 21st with my fiancé. Caught a ton of fish. You will have no problem finding bass... they are everywhere. There are 2 places I would recommend for walleye:
1) troll around 3 sister islands
2) fish the islands and points to the right, right when you get into the no motor zone part of basswood.

Use a Lindy rig set-up with either a leech or 3 inch chunk of crawler. Walleyes were located in 15 ft of water and even shallower (up to 5 ft) in the evening. We caught a lot of nothing but bass with shadraps.

We also had a lot of fun catching northern (after we caught our walleye for lunch) by trolling big daredevils with a fluorocarbon leader.

Here are some pictures of our trip: 26 in walleye, 21 in bass, and dinner on a stringer

And a heck of a bass it is!

The bit I've fished Basswood I've found the bass to come pretty easily as well. Incidental northerns of course. I don't fish walleye, so I can't speak to them.

Thanks for the information TM and D21. I will take that into consideration.

MT, seeing as your listed favorite lake is Basswood and reading your blog makes me believe you want me to stay away from your gold mine.

oh just messing with you.........Basswood is a fine lake and when I get to be an old (older?) geezer its nice to know I have a decent amount of time on the lake so when my mental faculties and physical abilities are depleted (even further than what they are now) I will have a place to go, hang out and still keep a few fish standards I have been accustomed to.

Remember, basswood may have lots of patterns going on at the same time since the forage base is so diversified. Lots going on there.

If you really want to get on the big ones in a hurry though just send $125 to MT enterprises or call !-800-TUFF-LUCK to order the new and slightly improved semi waterproof Basswood map showing all/most of the hotspots.

Hint: did you read the "One trolling bait to rule them all" thread? Grab what I suggest and ease around, make sure your rod is very secure as the Orcs pull very hard. You may want to get some Knot-to-kinky titanium leader material (very thin) in the 25lb class to put in front of your lure as old Mr Snaggletooth seems to like my suggestion as much as some other fish do. Be a shame to lose such a pricey hunk of plastic.

Very nice pictures, and those last 2 pictures would be great with or without fish in the picture :-)

Haha, God did bless me with a beautiful girl that enjoys fishing! Now I just need to get her to bait her own hook and take the fish off!
