I have gone solo LIS North through Steep, Finger, Hustler...

Been all over the east but never solo. I'm thinking about doing the Frost river in June. But I was thinking that maybe a few here have some good recommendations on some solo routes with considerations I have not thought of.

In other words... I'm open to suggestions. Five days seems pretty reasonable and gives me time to bookend my trip visiting my mother.

I would do the Frost River. It's wild and will be an adventure. Carry a SPOT locator or equivelant. You most likely won't see anyone else. Have fun.

start #38 EP Sawbill-->paddle north to Long Island Lake-->back to Sawbill same route.....with side trip to Frost Lake. EASY. Cherokee is a scenic lake & Cherokee Creek a pretty winding paddle.
or
counterclockwise loop: start Sawbill-->eastward to Kelly-->northward to North Temperance-westward to Sitka-Cherokee L.-Cherokee Creek--southward to Sawbill. moderately strenuous.

I did a solo out of Sawbill last May that took me up to Wine and then the Louse River to Dent and Trail and back. The Frost River solo in kanoes' trip reports would be sweet.

I'm leaving out of Brule in mid August.This is my "With no particular place to go" trip. I do plan on hitting Frost Lake and the river if the water is up.Other than that I'm going to wake up and decided my day. I'll have 5 days. This is one area I haven't visited. What are some must sees?

Cross Bay to Long Island to Frost Lake and back. Easy trip.

What are you looking for....long days? Short ones? Fishing? Isolation? Big lakes? Small ones? Moving everyday? Every other?

I hate to be ignorant but I have seen the abbreviation LIS a few times but can't decipher what it means. Can someone enlighten me?

"Little Indian Sioux" River. And as with the original post, EP 14 "Little Indian Sioux River North".

Do the frost as jeepgirl suggested. You'd love it. First day to Gordon or Frost. Second day to Afton. Third to Tuscarora. Rest day and then out day five. The Frost is mainly open to pencil lake for sure. After that it can be low. I suspect in June you'd be ok.

I've gone through Frost river three times at least. And always thought it made a good trip and considered it for a span before choosing. My original intent of the post was to see what people thought about particular areas and why it might be more solo-able or more attractive for a solo trip. Seeing solo trippers almost any and everywhere I thought maybe there would be some reasons.

Going for seven days and decided on going in at Kawishiwi Lake.
I am still noodling over the 'what to do' and how to go about it... You know, "Do I pack up and move? Or fish!" Being in the heart of the B dub there are plenty of options for over thinking where to go.

Rough plan is to blow through Malberg the first day. Then I have no clue.

I picked it because I love the Kawishiwi River and the area east of Alice. Maybe I'll spend more time on the river... Being wind bound seems less of an issue as well in my mind when avoiding big water. But Little Sag might be in the cards...

Beaver, Adams, and Boulder. They are impressive. I'd enjoy a return and spend a day on each lake exploring. So much I missed with each lake just paddling through.

I also enjoy the Kawishiwi in area of Alice. Nice area and unique. Seven days should give plenty of time to explore about and around.

My last route through the area where I stopped to lay my head was Malberg, Adams, Raven, Thomas, Alice, Polly.

Years ago I put in near Kawishiwi Lake and went up to Polly, Makwa to Little Saganaga Lake and down to Sawbill Lake. It was a nice solo trip Caught a ride from Sawbill back to the car. It was a 3 1/2 day trip back when I was young and pretty fit. Nowadays even with a lighter canoe I would probably give myself much longer, maybe a week.

I also liked the Adams area, if you haven't been there. A couple of years ago inspector13 and I went in Kawishiwi and out Sawbill via Little Sag, which was really nice. Lesser-traveled areas. There are trip reports with some pictures. More pictures here.
