My son didn't know what to get me for XMAS, so he splurged on a Kammock Roo, bug net, and python straps. Converting to hammocks is going to cost more money, but I'm making the change. I'm going to exchange the Kammock for a Blackbird XLC, which includes the net and suspension. I am going with a foam pad for now but could splurge further on a Superfly tarp. I'm drawn to the Superfly because it insures complete coverage with the doors in stormy weather. I welcome advice on going Walmart cheap or other tarp options for a trip this summer.

Welcome to the Jungle.

The superfly is a great option. I'd recommend going with that option, you won't find much better out there. Warbonnet is a very reputable brand to work with. As always, I'll throw in a shameless plug for the Warbonnet Ridge Runner. It's a bridge hammock and the best one out there, imho.

Keep us updated and take pics!

What's cheap?

Sometimes Woot or Steapandcheap have hammocks and tarps on the site. I recently picked up a Kelty Noah's Tarp 9 for $25. That would be a nice tarp to get you through the summer and still have utility after the fact. Pitched asym it would cover 12 & 3/4 feet. As long as you pitched it low, you should be ok in a blowing rain.

If you can afford the upper end products, do it. I tried going cheap. I just had to upgrade anyway. So over time you will probably spend less buying the good stuff right off.
I think an underquilt is one of the best purchases I made.
