Anyone have a Session IPA they really like?
Heading to a buddies cabin next weekend to hang out and talk stupid with a few coworkers for the day and night. Don't want my normal IPAs if I'm going to be tipping them back most of the day.

Nothing wrong with wanting to get most of the flavor and also wanting to enjoy more than two or three a night.

I think the original idea behind session beer was to allow a Brit to be able to drink 4-6 Imperial pints and still be coherent....a good idea when one is socializing or returning to work.

I really enjoyed a Karl Strauss Mosaic Session Ale out of a tap last evening. It was more than worth the happy hour price of 2.99.
At 5.5% ABV, I don't consider it a true session beer but I liked it anyway.
Karl Strauss is out of San Diego and I am not certain how far they distribute but I suspect it is a Karlifornia-only situation.

You are correct sir (sort of). Standard/Ordinary Bitters were a lower alcohol version of an Extra Special or Special Bitter. Also in Scotland the shilling beers were a means to be taxed at a lower rate based on the gravity of the beer. So a 60 shilling was a lower gravity beer than an 80 shilling. Some of my favorite beers are those low gravity English beers! London Pride on tap......

kanoes, I think I found something to alter your mind about session IPAs.
Summit Unchained #21 - Us & Them
They deconstructed Saga's mash to create both a stronger (Thread 1) and a session IPA (Thread 2). These were featured at a beer pairing last week at Brew in Perham (alas, I had to give away our tickets to head down to see my new-born granddaughter). They still had it on tap when I was there for lunch the other day. Quite good. 6-packs available, 3 of each.
