Hey guys I just wanted to share here my latest triumph. I have been trying to setup my Garmin Oregon 600t in a particular way and since I was new to basecamp and other map editing softwares it took me a while. But I finally made it.

I basically wanted to have the ability to have the fisher map in my gps too and found a file here that has been posted here few years back and I finally found a way to load it in my gps. It looks ok in my opinion but it's nice to have that ability to look at it if I wanted. I basically loaded it up as a custom map and can turn it on or off whenever I want to. I also loaded up routes that would kind of help me navigate from point to point if I wanted. Of course I have no way of knowing how this setup will work when I am in the wild but I'll bring my maps with me too. Here are some pics of how my setup looks in the gps:

It's a bit tricky to line up the overlay. But taken time and care to get the alignment creates a great addition to your mapset.

Did you mean the portage overlays? I just used the arch haris data for mine.

Thought you were discussing overlayed Fisher map in Google Earth converted to BaseCamp, older post. Camp and portage .gpx is easy, and very handy. For some reason I can no longer access the files at, good thing I have several saved/archived.

Only parts of it will open for me as well Ken. Think I have most of the info saved on a portable hard drive.

Good stuff, adibee. And, you can eliminate some of the screen clutter by ridding yourself of the waypoints marking the portage end points. It's possible that using them in a GoTo might be helpful, but I feel that a cleaner screen is best.

ps: Thanks for the fishing spots. :-)

Hi Schweady, thanks for the tip that helped a lot to reduce the clutter :D. I just don't know how accurate the overlay fisher maps are on my gps I guess I will have to find that out when I actually use it in the field.

I just put the whole area of the lakes into my google maps offline section just as a backup and of course the actual map itself too. Also no problem on the spots, my buddy who manages one of the outfitter told me about it.

Hey Butthead I am not able to access those files too. Thats why i ended up getting the low resolution fisher maps. Do you happen to have those files?

Sorry for the late response I did not have this thread subscribed :(.

It helps to zoom way in and then play with the custom map's transparency. Click on the slider and move it back and forth between totally transparent and totally opaque. Keep tweaking your overlay map until you don't see movement between the two. All of the sizing, nudging, and trapezoid work can get tiresome, but it will pay off.

Not sure which files you are talking about, but I have the bwca-camp-port-wpt.gpx and bwca-portage-tracks.gpx that I can email to you. Or, perhaps you mean the 4 overlapping usgs .png maps? I have those, too, but they are pretty huge.

Hey thanks for the tip, I can do that in basecamp right? I was talking about the .png maps since I have that loaded into my oregon 600 as a custom map. I think i have the low resolution one.
