I just got my Christmas present from my wife and I want to try it out. So I am going to hang it up out in the back yard and see how it goes in the cool weather or if I have to get a under quilt
I will get all the rest I need when I am dead.

You'll need some sort of Insulation.
Without any insulation, I get cold even hanging indoors in the basement. See if you can comfortably get by with a pad; I started with a 1/2-inflated thermarest. Actually, for the first backyard overnight on a hammock I might have just used a pile of blankets.
Once you try an underquilt, though, you'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner!
Good luck!

that near 60 Saturday was a good test of early/late BWCAW hanging
something I have noticed is that the old school fishnet style hammock is actually warmer than the new fangled fabric hammocks. My theory is that the thin material is great for conducting heat because it compresses your bag, while the fishnet doesn't.
Whatever the reason, my fishnet hammocks are warmer than my sheet fabric ones.
sorry, I've been doing this for 25+ years, so my reference is different than most.

Got my hammock out today but no hang :( Going to try to get a night in over spring break to make sure everything is ready for the year.

Closed cell foam pads are dirt cheap. If you don't like it you can cut it into butt-pads for sporting events and such. Most folks can go really far into the cold temperatures using CCF. Obviously a UQ is the way to go, but until then, don't underestimate the results of a good (or even decent) pad.

I used a hammock for the first time wilderness camping last June in the BWCAW. It got down to low 30's a couple nights and I didn't get cold. I have a Hennesy Hammock Expedition with no under quilt. I used a yoga mat and a windshield sun protector cover in my hammock under me. I wore some generic base layer spandex, flannel pj and a hoodie with winter cap. I also was in my kelty sleeping bag 40 degree. Plus a over sized tarp to protect from the wind. I was plenty warm and never woke up in the nite except for a bathroom break.
If you don't have a under quilt you got to get creative. I used the windshield thing because it's about 1/4 inch thick with a allumium heat reflector (kind of like emergency blanket). It reflected my heat back to me instead of out. Yoga mat is thin and gave goo padding I think? But as I write this, my Under quilt is being delivered soon, maybe tomorrow! I liked my setup but if you got the money and under quilt is the way to go.
I hope you stay warmer next time.

What UQ did you purchase? I am in the market since I ordered a Hennessy and it should be arriving soon!
