New member here and gearing up for my first BWCA next week! We are putting in at EP26 (Wood Lake) and traveling up into Basswood Lake our first day before making our way up Crooked to Thursday Bay then out at Mudro. Does anyone know if the small creek shown on maps between Hula Lake and Wind Bay is passable? This would cut out having to portage Hula to Good and Good to Basswood. Any additional advice for these areas would be great, we can't wait to get out and experience with BWCA!

Welcome!
We entered Wood last year and just went to Good Lake. Hulu is a very shallow lake with lots of wild Rice, Very cool looking. I am pretty sure that creek is not passable (others with better knowledge, will chime in soon ;-)).
The portage out of Indiana to Wind Bay, I was told was questionable too. I would go thru Good to Hoist and go north. Hoist will have motor traffic on it until you get up past Washington Island.

Call the ranger station or an outfitter you're using before heading up. The early parts of your route were hit hard by storms last week and may have make portaging difficult in certain areas due to down trees. That would probably drive my route more than anything at this point.

Wife and I came out that way a couple years ago (early June). Even had we been going with the current, we'd have had to walk much of the way.
There was a pretty chunky beaver dam near Indiana Lake we had to pull over as well.

Thanks for the advice, love the pictures! I think we will go the portage route so that we don't have to backtrack after not being able to make our way through the creek. All indications that I have received are that the portages will be clear by the time we we are putting in. I am going to follow up a few days before the trip to confirm so hopefully there are no setbacks. Sounds like Wood Lake got hit pretty hard

We went from Wind Bay to Indiana fours years ago and it was a very easy, pretty paddle. There was a big beaver dam near the Indiana portage that looks like it holds back the creek from Hula. It looks like a significant amount of water behind the dam.
