I've come back to look at this several times. I guess its because around here there is very little flat land. Your picture gives me a different perspective and I like it. Great shot!"
Thanks, I should have posted the location....the Red River Valley on the MN side. It is flat, cold and windy in the winter.

finally! some wildlife. baby deer, flandreau state park, this afternoon. i saw at least 5 different deer, very exciting for me.
ps... why does it feel like i'm the only one playing this game? :("
ANOTHER nice pic; great shot! I wonder if a lot of people don't look at this section of the forum because it's down toward the bottom? Or possibly they think only BWCAW pictures are in here and there won't be many this time of the year?

I sure agree with you ozarkpaddler, It is a great shot of Mocha's. Also this is my first stop when I come to the site. When I first found this private photography site I asked what the rules were, what could be sent, only BW pictures? Mocha's Quote to me was "pfffffffffff there are no rules!!!" That was a great answer Mocha!

The picture a day thing has been going on for several years now. When I started it the only rules I stated were one a day and something outdoors, but those were more suggestion than rules. The idea was to try get the forum some action and it seems to have done that. For me it was motivation to pick the camera up every day find something unique to photograph. That can be hard sometimes. It seems to go in spurts.

Hobbydog... hoping you understand my comment was in jest. i realize how hard it is to find something "presentable" for this forum. i was very intimidated at first, but have learned quite a bit studying the posted photos and since moving from the gunflint trail to a more populated area, i am struggling to find my focus. this is also the first forum i go to in the morning. i love seeing photos from all over our country, not sure if anyone has posted something from another country (besides Canada, which are also cool).
i sincerely hope we can all keep this monthly thing going and try to encourage others to not only lurk, but to post!

I totally understand. I don't think photos posted here need to be polished. I like to see everyday photos. You have to admit you were spoiled to be on the Gunflint year round. You have to work a little harder around here to find good subject matter but it is there. Have you found any winter swan hangouts yet?

Love those mallards and the Petroglyphs. I've never seen any of them in person.
Let's see if I can add a waterfowl pic too. It won't be as nice as those mallards, though! This one's for Mocha. A Goldeneye on the west end of Gunflint, near where the Cross River comes in:

Old boat next to Kendall's Smoke House, Knife Lake MN. I was told it was either Grandpa's or maybe Great Grandpa's. "
that is a really cool boat! i esp like the hardware. it looks like a tough ol' skid plate and hand forged, for dragging up on land, rocks, or even ice if need-be. is this your grampa or the grampa of the kendall fish house people? you're pretty crafty, perhaps this could be your winter project!

MHS67, no idea how old it is, but from the iron work I'd guess it was made in the 1920's or 30's? Mocha, no, I am not of the Kendall clan, but the clerk who sold me salmon that day was and referred to it as Grandpa's (or great, can't recall). Wish it was within someone's power to restore it, but I fear this old boat's history has been fully written. Since my first camera I have been drawn to things like buildings, cars, or boats that have been used and then discarded to be reabsorbed by the earth.
