I have a trip planned for just after Valentine's Day in February to paddle the Suwanee River in Florida. No details yet but I will drive down and trip then join Sue the 20th in Orlando and bringing her back with me. I have done some on line looking and have an outfitter I chatted with at Canoecopia this past March I will be calling.
My post is to invite anyone who might want to join up and also seek any input from anyone who has done this river. Thanks in advance.

Ive done from Rt 6 to the Alapaha and also down toward Branford and a day trip at the end toward the Gulf.

Feb should be fine for water levels. I prefer March as the cypress starts to leaf out. But Feb ought to be fine..
How many days and what sections will you do?

The outfitter has been slow to respond other than to validate getting my message. I am looking to spend four nights and probably put in above Branford on Thursday the 16th and exit late Monday morning with hopes to make it to the Gulf.
I am also realizing later would be better, but this trip is a gift and I will be grateful for what I get.

If your outfitter tanks we can pick you up on the 20th at Anderson Landing and deliver you and your boat back above Branford.

We are camping in Cedar Key from the 15th to the 21st. We have a truck with a canoe rack. We will probably paddle the Suwanee too for a day trip ending at the Anderson Landing

Cedar Key is off the lower left hand corner of this map but not far from Chiefland.

Or deliver you on the 16th to launch above Branford. I have that as a short cycling day in Cedar Key..

Whatever you might need.

We are looking at doing the Suwanee river or some other river next January or February with my sister in law and brother in law. Just now starting to look at info and you tube videos of the river.

Water levels are low on the upper tract so I will likely be entering above Branford. A local is set to meet me at the outfitters in Lake City and transport me to put and then pick me up when I call and coordinate. I was hoping to make it to the Gulf and Anderson Landing for takeout Monday morning. Perhaps we could share some time on the water and thanks for your hospitality.
I decided to rent one of the outfitter boats as the week of the 20th will be tourist activity in central Florida and then to New Orleans with Sue. I really do not want to drag my boats through all that.
I will take pictures and post a report upon return.

PS We are spoiled by the service of outfitters around the BWCA.

I was watching a bunch of videos on Youtube from a guy who did the whole length of the Suwanee river. He had some pretty good maps showing not only the river miles but also the names for all of the springs and other sites along the way. I am trying to find out where he got the map from. Don't know if you have watched any of his videos or not. The part you plan on canoeing looks great.

I never paid attention to the 20th week.. must be spring break.. Don't set your expectations on boat too high.. I get that its often easier to rent and discaard..We did that on the Yukon River.
We'll probably be out Monday.. Look for two solo boats.

Multiple factors, but I have cancelled the planned Suwanee float. Thanks for input.
