Has anyone ever made it back to Sock Lake from the Mayhew Lake Road (a.k.a. the Topper Lake trail)? If so, what was the trail like? Especially the north/south section. I know the Topper trail is quite steep but, the trail to Sock doesn't look as bad on the map - still, some first hand experience or confirmation would be much appreciated.

We stayed at Sock Lake October, 2015 coming from the west on the BRT. It is a sweet site, remote and private and a small perfect lake. The spur was a brushy but there was no trail finding issue at all at that time from Sock out to the trailhead at Mucker Lake. A nice walk in the woods. There were day hikers towards the trailhead end of Mucker Lake Trail. I believe it was a Sunday morning. I would like to stay at Sock again.
Unfortunately there was a mixup with the outfitter who was to have moved our car to be at the trailhead. We had no cell service and so road walked to Rockwood Lodge where a local couple (thank you!) gave us a ride to the outfitter we had hired.
Great hike on the BRT, though!
Photos are at Sock Lake. Yes, Scooter has hiked 1/3 of the BRT, the Snowbank Lake Trail, Angleworm Trail, canoe tripped into Lac La Croix, Gebeonequet, Frost Lake, Winchell, Stuart and many others. May-be you've seen him out there.

Well, silly me, of course you were asking about winter travel.
Wonderful wonderful photos, and could there be a happier little girl. Aurora asleep in her chair the first night is absolutely precious.
You burned a few calories over the four days, that's for sure. Great memories for your family.

I think I own your dog's long lost brother (he was a rescue from the Alexandria MN Humane Society). Mine also has the same jacket. It compliments the dusty chocolate brown fur.
