is there currently a fire ban in the BWCA?
we are going in at Snowbank Lake on August 19th.

Yes, there is currently a fire ban. You are still allowed to use a camp stove that has an off switch and uses petroleum based fuel.

But no campfires, charcoal grills, wood burning stoves (twig stoves, etc.) or alcohol stoves allowed.

The ban is not expected to be lifted this summer or fall...not until the snow flies. Possible, but unlikely.

Note: There is also a food storage order that is new to the BWCA. Food must either be stored in an approved hard sided bear canister or hung according to the Forest Service regulations. Blue barrels are NOT approved bear canisters. There are multiple posts in the forums with information about this.
